The difference between wanting and being ready
Wanting is about longing. Being ready is about room: time, energy and a reasonably calm place in life to invite someone into.
You do not have to be finished with everything. The question is whether you can carry what is difficult without a new relationship having to carry it for you.
Signs that more time may help
None of this means you are doing it wrong - only that timing may be worth a thought.
- You compare every new person to a previous relationship.
- You date mostly to avoid feeling alone in the evenings.
- You notice yourself saying yes to things you do not want.
- The thought of someone really getting to know you mostly feels stressful.
Four questions that usually clarify things
Answer briefly, for yourself. There are no right answers.
- What did I learn from my last relationship, concretely?
- What would I need to change in my week to make room for someone?
- What am I afraid will happen - and what would I do if it did?
- How do I notice when I start adapting too much?
If the answer is "not yet"
Then that is an answer, not a failure. Many find it easier to start in settings without a dating purpose - Circles, for example, where you meet people around interests and life situation.
If what stands in the way is anxiety, grief or a previous relationship that still hurts, human support is the right route. Aivelyn is not healthcare.
